Lot 274:
German, Antique Bisque Chinoiserie Seated Nodder Figure
Description
An antique German bisque porcelain nodder figure, crafted in the Chinoiserie style, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The figure is depicted seated cross-legged in ornate traditional attire, featuring an ivory-coloured robe decorated with extensive gold detailing and intricate raised white moriage beadwork. A large, pink fanned backdrop is positioned behind the head. The piece is designed with a separate, internal weighted head mechanism that allows for a nodding motion. No visible factory marks or model numbers are present. Height: 17 cm.
Condition report:
The nodding mechanism is intact and functional. There is a visible hairline crack located on the back underside rim of the base. Minor surface wear and some fading to the gilding are present, consistent with the age of the piece. A paper auction tag is currently attached to the right arm.
