Lot 260:
A Collection of Danish Porcelain Commemorative and Christmas Plates including Royal Copenhagen and Bing and Grondahl Category: Ceramics
Description
A comprehensive collection of Danish decorative porcelain plates, primarily featuring traditional underglaze blue and white commemorative and holiday wares. The assembly includes several annual Christmas (Julen) editions from Royal Copenhagen and Bing and Grondahl, notably for the years 1973, 1975, and 1981, alongside a 1976 Olympic Games commemorative plate. The blue and white series depicts various winter landscapes, architectural motifs, and figurative scenes executed in the classic Danish cobalt underglaze technique. These are complemented by a selection of smaller polychrome floral plates, several of which feature delicate reticulated or pierced lattice borders. The reverse of the pieces bears various factory marks including the Royal Copenhagen three waves, the Bing and Grondahl three towers, and stamps for Georg Jensen Inc., alongside titles, series numbers, and Made in Denmark designations. Most larger plates are fitted with wire display hangers. Large plates diameter approximately 18 cm to 19 cm; small plates diameter approximately 8 cm to 12 cm.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good vintage condition overall. No significant chips, cracks, or restorations were observed during inspection. Minor surface wear and light scratches consistent with age and display may be present, particularly where wire hangers are attached to the reverse.
