Unmarked German, Musical Gnomes Figural Planter
Description
An unmarked Continental bisque ceramic figural group, likely of German origin, depicting a whimsical band of five musical gnomes or dwarfs. The ensemble features a flutist, a conductor or lead singer holding an open book, a lute player, and two choristers with sheet music. The figures are intricately modelled with expressive features and traditional rustic attire, including peaked hats and full beards. The piece is finished in cold-painted polychrome details in a muted palette of tan, brown, and cream. The central hollow well is designed to function as a small planter or cachepot. No manufacturer’s marks or model numbers are present on the underside. Height: 6 inches.
Condition report:
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Minor fleabite chips and small areas of paint loss are present, most notably on the raised edges of the gnomes\' hats, beards, and the base. The interior well shows dark staining and mineral residue from previous use. Light accumulation of dust and surface grime in recessed areas. No evidence of professional repair or restoration.
