A Pair of Late 19th or Early 20th Century Cast Iron Cobbler's Shoe Lasts and Anvils Category: Metalware
Description
A collection of two antique industrial cast iron cobbler’s tools. The first is a stationary shoe last featuring a decorative lobed or scalloped base, with the stem embossed with the text LUKE LAST. The second is a more complex mechanical piece, comprising a shoe last mounted upon a heavy, adjustable swivelling base, complete with a turned wooden lever handle for positioning. Both pieces are constructed from sand-cast iron and represent the functional aesthetic of late Victorian or Edwardian shoemaking. The items display a rich, dark oxidised patina developed through decades of workshop use. Largest item measures approximately 25 cm in height. Total width as displayed approximately 35 cm.
Condition report:
Both pieces are in good antique condition, displaying a heavy surface oxidation and pitting characteristic of their age and historical industrial application. The wooden handle on the adjustable stand exhibits surface wear and discolouration but remains structurally sound. The mechanical swivelling mechanism is intact.
