Description

This extensive and varied collection of antique and vintage smalls and curiosities primarily originates from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. The lot features a diverse array of writing instruments, including an engraved brass dip pen holder and a label for Grant Scholastic Stationery of Leeds. Personal grooming and sewing items are well-represented by several carved bone or ivory-toned handles, celluloid combs, and a silver-toned pincushion with a green textile top. Notable advertising and ephemera include a dark panel titled WHAT’S YOURS? featuring a drinking-themed illustration, a circular bottle opener, and a card for Eggeye located on Norfolk Street, Sheffield. The collection is characterised by a range of materials including brass, silver-toned metal, wood, bone, and early plastics, such as a vibrant green handle. These items offer a fascinating insight into the material culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Condition report:

The collection is offered in as-found condition, exhibiting a natural aged patina across metal components. Surface oxidisation is present on various steel and iron tools. The textile element of the pincushion shows signs of wear and fraying. General surface wear, scuffing, and minor losses consistent with age and domestic use are visible throughout the lot.
