Description

This eclectic tray lot comprises a diverse assortment of approximately thirty small collectibles and curiosities, primarily focused on 19th-century needlework and cabinet curios. The sewing-related items include multiple thimbles in metal and plastic, intricately carved bone thread spools and cases, a mother-of-pearl tatting shuttle, and several retractable metal tape measures. Decorative miniatures feature a brass-coloured donkey, a metal beetle, a spotted ceramic animal, and a cold-painted bust of a Native American. Additional items of interest include a miniature red umbrella, a butterfly-shaped pincushion, a small corkscrew with a carved handle, and various small boxes in wood, metal, and traditional Scottish Tartanware finishes. The lot is completed by a small paper booklet or card featuring a black cat illustration and lyrics from the song Annie Laurie. Materials used throughout the collection include carved bone, wood, base metals, celluloid, fabric, and paper. Makers are generally unmarked, representing various European and British manufacturers of the period. Dimensions not provided.

Condition report:

The items generally exhibit age-related wear consistent with their vintage. Metal components, particularly the retractable tape measures, show surface oxidisation and tarnish. Fabric elements, such as the pincushion and tassels, show some fraying and fading. The painted Native American bust exhibits minor pigment loss and surface scuffing. Carved bone items appear stable with natural age-toning and minor surface grime. The paper booklet shows light foxing and wear to the edges. The collection is sold as a single lot in as-found condition.
