Lot 144:
Aerozon German Porcelain Twin Owl Novelty Nightlight, Mid-20th Century
Description
A vintage novelty nightlight or table lamp, likely of German origin, depicting a pair of owls perched together. The piece is expertly crafted from glazed porcelain with hand-painted plumage in tones of brown, grey, and cream. A distinctive feature of this model is the inset translucent red glass eyes, designed to emit a warm glow when the internal bulb is illuminated. The underside features a blue underglaze manufacturer’s mark consisting of a crown above initials, accompanied by the number 1871. This style of lamp was frequently marketed as a perfume aromiser, where the heat from the bulb would evaporate scented oils placed in a small reservoir, evidenced by the aperture at the top of the larger owl’s head. The lamp is fitted with a gold-toned flex and a standard UK three-pin plug. Dimensions: Approximately 15 cm (6 inches) in width at the base.
Condition report:
The porcelain body is in good overall condition, free from significant chips or cracks. There are minor traces of surface dust and small patches of adhesive residue consistent with age. The internal electrical socket is present; however, the wiring remains untested and should be inspected by a qualified electrician prior to use. The red glass eyes are intact.
