An English Art Pottery Glazed Ceramic Jardiniere with Chrysanthemum Relief Category: Ceramics
Description
An English art pottery glazed ceramic bowl or jardiniere, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece is fashioned from a light tan earthenware body and features a vibrant burnt-orange ground. The exterior is decorated with a high-relief moulded design depicting a large yellow chrysanthemum blossom, green foliage, and a small butterfly in flight. The interior is finished in a matching orange glaze. The unglazed base bears an impressed numerical mark 2068 H and a separate MADE IN ENGLAND stamp. This style of naturalistic relief decoration is characteristic of the English Art Pottery movement, often associated with manufacturers such as Burmantofts, Bretby, or Wardle. Diameter: approximately 20 cm.
Condition report:
The item is in good overall condition. There is minor surface wear consistent with age and use. A small adhesive label is present on the exterior. No visible chips, cracks, or restorations were observed upon inspection.
