Regency Revival Mahogany-Finished Serpentine Occasional Table with Gilt-Tooled Leather Inset
Description
This mid-20th-century occasional table is designed in the Regency revival style, featuring a mahogany-finished frame with a serpentine-fronted top. The tabletop is inset with a green-toned leather surface, which is decorated with an elegant gilt-tooled border. The piece is supported by a traditional X-frame trestle base, consisting of turned legs and a central cross-stretcher, accented by brass-toned hardware at the pivotal joints and feet. The construction reflects the influence of early 19th-century English tray-top furniture, often utilised as a butler or coffee table. While no maker’s mark is visible, the style is consistent with high-quality revivalist furniture produced by manufacturers such as Baker or Councill Craftsmen. Condition report:
The table is in sound structural condition. The leather inset exhibits notable wear consistent with age and use, including surface staining, scratching, and significant fading to the pigment.
