Lot 113:
Smiths, Napoleon Hat Mantel Clock, Circa 1940s
Description
A vintage Smiths Napoleon hat or tambour style mantel clock, manufactured in England. The clock incorporates a mechanical, key-wound striking movement, evidenced by the two winding arbors on the dial. The case is constructed from wood with a dark-stained finish, featuring a wide, curved silhouette resting upon a tiered rectangular base with a carved decorative border. The round dial is housed behind a silver-toned metal bezel and glass cover, featuring an off-white face with black Arabic numerals and spade-style hands. This type of movement typically strikes the hour and half-hour on internal gongs. Dimensions: Width 43cm, Height 22cm, Depth 12cm.
Condition report:
The clock is in an untested condition and is sold as-is for parts or restoration. The movement is not currently running and no winding key is present. The wooden case displays surface wear, minor scuffs, and age-related marks. The dial face shows significant patina and heavy discoloration throughout. The hands and metal bezel exhibit some oxidation.
