Carl Scheidig Attributed German Porcelain Owl Perfume Lamp, Mid-20th Century, with Inset Red Glass Eyes
Description
A vintage German porcelain accent lamp in the form of an owl, attributed to the manufacturer Carl Scheidig. This piece, dating from the mid-20th century, is expertly crafted from glazed ceramic with a detailed, stylised feather texture. The colour palette consists of a tonal brown and cream glaze, accented by subtle blue-grey highlights. The owl features distinctive inset red glass eyes designed to glow when the internal light is active. Historically utilised as a perfume or scent lamp, the heat from the bulb would evaporate oils placed within the vessel to fragrance a room. The underside reveals a hollow interior housing the original internal socket. No maker’s marks are present. Dimensions: Height approximately 19 cm (7.5 inches).
Condition report:
The item is in fair to good vintage condition, exhibiting some surface dirt and minor adhesive residue along the unglazed base rim. The electrical components, including the vintage cord and two-prong plug, are original and remain untested. For safety reasons, professional inspection and rewiring are recommended before use.
