Description

European School (20th Century), oil on board. This expressive work depicts a vibrant outdoor scene, likely a bustling flower market or street festival, rendered in a bold Impressionistic style. The work is characterised by heavy impasto brushwork, with thick, tactile applications of paint that create a sense of movement and flickering light. A rich palette of saturated reds, yellows, and deep greens defines the figures and stalls nestled beneath a canopy of lush trees. The composition is reminiscent of the mid-century Italian school of palette knife painting. The work is indistinctly signed in red paint along the upper right edge. It is presented in a traditional stepped gilt wood frame, which retains an inventory sticker numbered 9289 to the right side. 45 x 60 cm

Condition report:

The painting is in good overall condition with no significant craquelure, paint loss, or visible restoration. The impasto is stable and well-adhered to the rigid support. A light layer of surface dirt is present across the varnish layer. The traditional gilt wood frame shows minor age-related wear and small scuffs to the edges but remains structurally sound.
