Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Envelope Games Table
Description
An Edwardian mahogany envelope games table, dating to the early 20th century. The square top is composed of four triangular hinged flaps, each decorated with floral and foliate marquetry inlays of boxwood and satinwood. The top rotates to allow the flaps to open, revealing a playing surface lined with green baize and featuring four circular recessed counter wells. The frieze is fitted with a single drawer, also displaying fine marquetry work and two brass knob pulls. The piece is raised on four square-tapered legs with conforming inlay, united by an X-form stretcher with a centre inlaid platform. The construction features period-appropriate brass hinges and joinery. No maker’s marks or labels are present. H 75cm x W 55cm x D 55cm.
Condition report:
The table is in good structural condition. The mahogany finish shows minor surface scuffs, light scratches, and age-related wear consistent with its period. The interior green baize playing surface shows light wear and minor marking. Hinges and drawer movement are functional. No evidence of woodworm or significant veneer loss.
