A 19th Century Framed Biblical Print Christ Weeping Over Jerusalem
Description
A single framed monochromatic print, likely an engraving or lithograph, depicting the biblical scene of Christ Weeping Over Jerusalem. The central image is arched and surrounded by text from Matthew 23:37, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not,” rendered in English Gothic script. The print is titled in the lower margin as “Christ weinend über Jerusalem.” The work is presented in a dark wood frame featuring a gold-tone inner bevel/liner and set within a wide, discolored mat. An auction sticker marked ’72/0′ is affixed to the lower mat.
