Description
This pair of paintings consists of two watercolours on textured paper by the British artist Edward Stott ARA (1855-1918). The works depict atmospheric harbour scenes in Whitby, North Yorkshire, executed in a traditional impressionistic style. Both compositions feature fishing vessels with characteristic red sails. The uppermost work is signed E. STOTT and dated 1914 in the upper right corner, with WHITBY inscribed in the lower right. The lower work is signed E. STOTT in the lower right and inscribed WHITBY in the upper right. The paintings are housed in matching gilt-finish wooden frames.
