Lot 412:
Johnson Brothers, Old English Pattern Dinner and Tea Service, Cobalt Blue and Gilded Filigree, Circa 1930-1950
Description
A comprehensive collection of English ironstone tableware manufactured by Johnson Brothers in the refined Old English pattern. Each piece is crafted with a cream-coloured body, decorated with a striking cobalt blue band and an ornate gilded filigree border. The service comprises a diverse range of items including multiple teacups, saucers, small bowls, a cream jug, and a group of egg cups. The design features traditional scalloped rims and elegant proportions typical of mid-century British ceramic craftsmanship. Marks to the underside include the circular Made in England backstamp.
Condition report:
The set is presented in used condition with surface dust and light wear commensurate with age. There is some thinning to the gilding on the rims of several pieces due to handling. The items are currently packed loosely in a plastic storage bin; no major chips or cracks were observed during initial inspection, though minor flea bites may be present.
