Lot 398:
Various Makers, A Collection of Antique Woodworking and Surgical Tools, Circa 1880-1930
Description
This lot comprises a diverse array of late 19th to early 20th-century tools, featuring a significant 19th-century surgical trephine with a decoratively turned wooden handle, potentially by Evans. The woodworking component includes a large try square with a rosewood or ebony stock and four diamond-shaped brass inlays, a wooden spirit level with brass protective plates, and a beech marking gauge. Striking and shaping tools include a hand-turned joiner’s mallet, a cast-iron double-handed spokeshave, a long-handled paring gouge, and two socket-style chisels. The collection is completed by a metal layout or medical tool with a chain attachment and various wooden stocks and fences for specialised planes.
