Lot 371:
A Mid-20th Century Cased Flatware Service with Firth Staybrite Stainless Steel and Faux-Ivory Handles
Description
A comprehensive mid-20th-century flatware collection featuring a primary service and associated sets. The principal service comprises stainless steel blades and tines, prominently featuring the Firth Staybrite Stainless label, a hallmark of quality British steel production from Sheffield. The pieces are fitted with cream-coloured synthetic handles, likely Xylonite, designed to mimic the appearance of ivory. This set is presented in its original fitted canteen, featuring a black and white patterned exterior and a red velvet-lined interior. The lot further includes a secondary boxed set of knives and forks with matching cream handles, housed in a blue-lined presentation case with several pieces still in their original tissue wrappers. Also present is a single, individually boxed serving piece with a cream handle marked Kirkwall Orkney, indicating a Scottish regional association. The collection exemplifies the durable yet elegant dining styles of the mid-century period. Canteen measures approximately 48cm x 32cm; secondary box 30cm x 24cm.
