Lot 332:
A Mixed Collection of European and Asian Porcelain and Decorative Ceramics
Description
A varied assortment of ceramic and porcelain items. The collection features a prominent large oval porcelain serving platter with a scalloped rim, decorated with floral transfer-printed sprays and gilt highlights. Included are various teacups and saucers, notably a set with a green shamrock motif, a turquoise-ground cup with floral basket reserves in the Sevres taste, and several pieces featuring hand-painted Asian figurative and landscape scenes in the Japanese style. A significant piece is a heavy-bodied ceramic jar or vase featuring high-relief applied floral decoration in the Barbotine manner. The lot also contains a brown-glazed earthenware pitcher and a white porcelain vase with a flared rim. Decorative techniques observed include hand-painting, transfer-printing, and moulded relief. While no specific maker’s marks are visible from the current orientation, the styles suggest a mix of 19th and 20th-century British, Continental, and East Asian manufacture. Platter approximately 45 cm in length; jar approximately 20 cm in height.
