A mid-20th century composite figure of a street urchin in the French taste
Description
After the French school, a mid-20th century composite figure of a street urchin or Gavroche. The piece is cast from a resin or polymer composite material, finished with an antiqued bronze-tone and gilded patina. The figure is depicted barefoot, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, an open jacket over a double-breasted waistcoat, and knee-length trousers. He stands upon an integral rectangular block base, which is partially hollowed to one side, suggesting it may have originally functioned as a lamp base or held a decorative accessory such as a newspaper. No artist’s signature, foundry marks, or edition numbers are discernible. 60cm x 25cm x 20cm.
