A varied collection of seventeen decorative trinket and pill boxes including Asian-inspired and contemporary examples
Description
This collection consists of seventeen assorted decorative trinket and pill boxes of various materials, shapes, and origins, predominantly dating from the 20th century to the contemporary period. The assembly features several items with Asian-inspired motifs, including a rectangular silver-tone metal box featuring a relief-cast dragon in the Chinese style, a small square green enamel box with a bird-and-flower design in the Chinese cloisonné style, and a round black textile box with gold-thread embroidery reminiscent of South Asian Zardozi work. The group also contains Kashmiri-style papier-mâché boxes with intricate hand-painted floral designs. Other pieces include porcelain and ceramic boxes with hand-painted floral, nautical, and landscape scenes—one depicting a Mediterranean-style village—alongside a hexagonal brass and glass box, a white faux-pearl encrusted round box, and a large oval box with a sunburst design on a bone-textured ground. The collection is completed by various contemporary beaded and rhinestone-embellished containers. No specific reign marks, artist seals, or inscriptions were identified during inspection. Measurements: The tray measures approximately 40 cm in length; individual boxes range from approximately 3 cm to 15 cm in width.
