A Pair of Victorian Rosewood and Figured Walnut Jewellery Boxes
Description
A pair of mid-to-late 19th-century Victorian decorative wooden boxes, likely intended for jewellery or sewing implements. The first box is veneered in rosewood and features a central oval mother-of-pearl medallion on the lid with a matching mother-of-pearl escutcheon. The interior is lined with a purple velvet and contains a removable lift-out tray and an associated steel key. The second box is finished in a figured walnut veneer, embellished with boxwood line stringing and circular mother-of-pearl corner inlays, opening to a pink fabric-lined interior. Both boxes are fitted with brass hinges. The larger box measures approximately 23 cm x 15 cm x 11 cm.
