Description
A collection of mid-20th-century decorative glazed earthenware and novelty items. The lot includes two Carlton Ware leaf-moulded dishes in the pale green Australian Design palette, featuring a large double-leaf dish in the Water Lily pattern with a relief-moulded yellow blossom. Accompanied by a Shorter and Son Ltd Staffordshire dish with hand-painted pink floral motifs, a Japanese lidded jar in the form of a thatched cottage, a tall basketweave textured shaker with a sunflower-form lid marked Made in Japan, and a small figurine depicting two geese. The items showcase the relief decoration and vibrant polychrome glazes typical of English and Japanese commercial pottery of the 1930s to 1950s. Marks include Carlton Ware backstamps, Shorter and Son Ltd, and Made in Japan. Largest dish measures approximately 24cm in length.
