Description
A varied grouping of five decorative wooden boxes of diverse cultural origins and artisanal techniques. The collection features a rectangular black lacquer box in the Chinoiserie taste, decorated with hand-painted scenes in gold and red pigments depicting figures amongst pavilions and a bridge. Also included is a box with geometric wood parquetry inlay to the lid and carved scrollwork to the sides, a folk art style box with a hand-painted mountainous landscape featuring tents and incised scroll borders, an intricately all-over carved box of Chinese origin, likely camphor wood, and a small square box with a pierced openwork lattice lid. These pieces represent a range of 19th and 20th-century decorative styles. Largest box measures approximately 28cm x 20cm x 10cm.
