20th Century Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Covered Jar
Description
A large 20th-century Chinese blue and white porcelain storage jar of ovoid form, complete with a matching domed cover surmounted by a blue-glazed bud-shaped finial. The exterior is decorated in vibrant underglaze cobalt blue with a continuous scrolling floral motif, depicting stylised chrysanthemums or peonies amongst dense, leafy vines. The shoulder is bordered by a band of ruyi-head motifs, while the base is encircled by a series of stylised rectangular panels. The cover mirrors the scrolling floral design of the main body. The base bears a four-character apocryphal reign mark in underglaze blue reading Kangxi Nian Zhi (康熙年製), translated as Made in the reign of Kangxi. This piece is a 20th-century production executed in the style of 17th-century Kangxi period wares. Dimensions: Approximately 35.5 cm in height.
