Lot 184:
A Crown Staffordshire Cobalt Blue and Gilded Bone China Tea Service
Description
A fine bone china tea service produced by Crown Staffordshire, England. The set is decorated in a regency-influenced style, featuring a rich cobalt blue ground heavily embellished with elaborate gilded scrolling foliate and floral motifs. The service comprises a large twin-handled square-form cake plate, four teacups, four saucers, a cream jug, and an open sugar bowl. Each piece is finished with burnished gilded rims and decorative highlights to the handles. The undersides bear the green printed maker’s mark: FINE BONE CHINA, CROWN, ESTD 1801, STAFFORDSHIRE, MADE IN ENGLAND. The pieces also feature the hand-painted pattern number A13944 in red. This pattern exemplifies the high-quality ornamental porcelain produced in the mid-20th century, drawing inspiration from earlier 19th-century Sèvres and Coalport designs. Cake plate measures approximately 25.5 cm in diameter.
Condition report:
The items are in good overall condition with some minor surface soiling and light shelf wear to the unglazed foot rims. The gilt decoration is largely intact with only minor rubbing consistent with age and use. No chips, cracks, or restorations are visible.
