Lot 170:
A George V Marine Mammal Tooth and Sterling Silver-Mounted Ebony Walking Stick, 1918
Description
This fine George V period dress cane features a distinctive crutch or T-form handle fashioned from a natural marine mammal tooth, exhibiting a rich aged patina. The handle is secured to the shaft by a robust sterling silver mount, designed with decorative rivets and a wrap-around strap motif. The collar is struck with a full set of British hallmarks for Birmingham, 1918, including the anchor, lion passant, and date letter t; the maker’s mark is present but partially obscured. The shaft is crafted from polished black ebony wood, tapering elegantly towards the base. Note: Buyers should be aware of international trade regulations, such as CITES, regarding the export of items containing antique marine mammal products. Length: 91 cm
