Lot 158:
Copper-Mounted Tippler's System Walking Stick, Late 19th/Early 20th Century
Description
A vintage Toper’s or Tippler’s system walking stick, designed as a concealed flask cane for the discreet carriage of spirits. The handle features a fitted copper screw-top cap with a gadrooned edge and an aged patina, which unscrews to reveal a compartment for a small drinking glass or rummer with a capacity of approximately 6.5cc. The wooden shaft is decorated with a reddish-brown speckled faux-finish, expertly painted to imitate the appearance of cloudy Malacca cane. This classic system cane features a hollowed upper section intended to accommodate a slender 15.5-inch glass vial for liquids with a 48cc capacity, though this item is a tippler stick no flask. The stick is finished with a decorative metal collar and a simple metal ferrule. Length: 91 cm.
