Lot 157:
Ebonite and Steel, System Cane Gun, Late 19th Century
Description
An antique European system cane gun, likely of Belgian or German manufacture, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The L-shaped handle consists of a steel frame fitted with a polished grip of black ebonite or horn. The tapered steel shaft serves as the barrel for the firearm, terminating in a hollow muzzle. This functional system cane is designed with a pull-ring trigger on the side of the upper shaft and a sliding cocking and loading mechanism located just below the handle elbow. The upper shaft is stamped with a small proof mark depicting a crown over a circular cartouche containing stylized letters or a heraldic device. Such pieces were typically chambered for small-calibre rimfire or pinfire ammunition. Length approx. 90 cm.
