Whangee Root, Hand-Carved Narrative Walking Stick, Late Meiji Period
Description
The handle is comprised of a rounded whangee root pommel, also known as pearl bamboo, exhibiting characteristic circular growth nodes and a natural honey-coloured finish. The bamboo shaft features extensive high-relief hand carving divided into decorative registers. The central narrative depicts three armoured samurai warriors in dynamic poses, separated by bands of geometric motifs including Raimon thunder patterns, chevrons, and cross-hatching. This is a solid decorative stick with no internal system features or precious metal hallmarks. Length approx. 91 cm.
