Hand-Carved Wooden Romani Vardo Model with Miniature Cart and Ceramic Draft Horse, Mid-20th Century
Description
This collection features a detailed hand-carved wooden model of a traditional Romani vardo, or travelling wagon, accompanied by a smaller wooden cart and a glazed ceramic horse. The vardo displays intricate floral and geometric relief carvings on the side panels and front, topped with a rounded roof featuring a decorative perforated brass-toned metal trim. The structure is mounted on four spoked wooden wheels. The smaller wooden push cart is of a simpler design with two spoked wheels and long handles, containing two additional loose wheels. The set is completed by a glossy ceramic pinto draft horse with feathered legs, finished in a brown and white colouration. These pieces serve as an evocative example of mid-century folk art and miniature craftsmanship. Caravan length approximately 12 to 14 inches.
