Dutch Zaanse Style Weight-Driven Wall Clock, Mid-20th Century
Description
A traditional Dutch Zaanse style wall clock featuring a dark-stained oak backboard and ornate cast brass decorative elements. The clock is surmounted by a brass pediment depicting Atlas supporting a celestial sphere, positioned above a pierced frieze bearing the traditional motto NU ELCK SYN SIN. The dial comprises a circular brass chapter ring with black Roman numerals and fleur-de-lis markers, set against a decorative embossed central plate. The mechanical weight-driven movement is housed within a case flanked by twisted brass columns and scrollwork, featuring a bell strike housed under the top finial. The lot is complete with two cylindrical brass-cased weights and a pendulum. Dimensions: 62cm x 25cm x 15cm.
