Victorian Rococo Revival Walnut Nursing Chair
Description
A mid-Victorian walnut nursing chair, circa 1860, executed in the Rococo Revival style. The solid walnut frame is characterised by a classic balloon back with button-tufted upholstery and a serpentine-fronted seat. The piece is upholstered in a red and cream floral damask accented with white gimp trim. The chair is supported by cabriole front legs featuring carved foliate details at the knees, terminating in white ceramic casters, with out-swept legs to the rear. Construction features period-appropriate mortise and tenon joints with secondary timbers likely comprising beech or pine to the internal seat frame. This silhouette was a hallmark of mid-19th-century parlour furniture, designed for both comfort and decorative elegance. Dimensions: 90cm H x 52cm W x 55cm D.
