Lot 21:
Persian Afshar Tribal Rug, Hand-Knotted Wool, Triple Medallion with Zoomorphic Motifs
Description
A fine hand-knotted Persian tribal rug, attributed to the Afshar weavers of South-East Persia. The piece features a striking ivory field centred by three stacked, stepped hexagonal medallions in deep madder red and navy blue. The entire composition is densely populated with a charming array of stylised zoomorphic motifs, including various birds and quadrupeds, interspersed with geometric filler patterns. The palette is composed of rich earth tones, greens, and blues. The rug is framed by a narrow multi-band border containing repeating geometric floral elements and is finished with a short cream-coloured fringe at both ends. Constructed from high-quality wool on a wool foundation, the piece demonstrates the characteristic robust handle and vibrant dyes associated with tribal weaving from the Kerman region. Dimensions: Approximately 150 cm x 100 cm.
